Newsflash: My Image Spring/Summer 2014 Announced

My Image Magazine has announced their Spring/Summer issue for 2014.  I looked at the line drawings first and told myself I didn't need to buy this issue because I already have a lot of similar pattern.  Then I looked at the garment photos and totally changed my mind.  Let's take a look:

The Spring issue!

I am actually really liking the long jacket and the basic sheath dress.

For some reason I am really excited by the red pants.
Perhaps because I have some fabric for bright red pants and
this pattern is EXACTLY what I had in mind when I bought it.

I am also really liking this maxi dress.
Now that I, you know, wear them and stuff.

That cowl dress really sold the magazine to me.
I am a sucker for a good cowl neck drape, and this pattern has more seams for fitting than most.

I actually really like both of these dress patterns...

...though I think the color block dress is more of a wow than the one with the print.
There are also some good plus patterns this time - a top, pants, and a dress.

I liked the jacket long, but I really love it short.

Here is an overview of all the line drawings.

I have only made one My Image pattern so far, but it is one of my favorite garments to wear, so I am always happy to buy a new issue if there are patterns I like because I think the fit is really good for me.  I think there is enough here that I am excited about that it is worth it for me to get this issue.  I don't think there are any really wow pieces, but there are a lot of nice patterns that could be wardrobe staples, which is part of the reason I like these magazines so much.

Also, as a bonus bit of news - the Simplicity Early Spring look-book has hit the pattern stores, but the patterns aren't up on the website yet.  Thus far I am feeling sort of meh, but I am going to wait for the individual patterns and line drawings to go up before I make up my mind completely.  There are a few Vintage reprints that might be interesting, and a coral lace skirt that caught my eye.  And there are often multiple views that don't get photographed that I end up liking better, so judgement is out until the line drawings are up.

So, what do you all think?  Are you excited by the newest My Image Magazine?  Or are all these pattern too similar to earlier designs?  If you took a peak at the Simplicity link did you see anything exciting there?  Or is it too hard to tell without all the pattern views?  And, most importantly, is anybody actually sewing for spring yet?  Feel free to discuss in the comments!

  1. I just bought a whole bundle of winter fabric at a buy 1 get 2 free sale yesterday. I worried that I wouldn't have any use for them then realized there's still basically 5 months left of winter...*cringe*.
I love the colour blocked dress and first jacket but I think if you have hips it might flare funny.

    1. I could see that being a problem with the long coat - which is why I think I like the short version of the jacket better - you still get all the lovely seam lines but don't have to worry about it fitting over the hips.
